What is replacing BC Autism Funding in 2027?

Quick Answer

BC's Autism Funding program ends at the end of March 2027. The province is replacing it with two new programs: the BC Children and Youth Disability Benefit, for children with the most significant support needs, and the income-tested BC Children and Youth Disability Supplement. Free community-based services are also expanding.

BC's Autism Funding program ends at the end of March 2027, and from April 1, 2027 new families apply to the new system instead. The province is replacing it with two new programs and a larger network of free community-based services.

The BC Children and Youth Disability Benefit gives direct funding to families of children and youth (birth to age 19) with a long-term disability that creates significant and complex support needs. Eligibility is based on a child's level of need, not their diagnosis alone or the family's income. The province describes it as support for children with the most significant needs, so not every child who receives Autism Funding today will necessarily qualify.

The BC Children and Youth Disability Supplement is a monthly payment for low- and middle-income families. It is based on family income and requires the federal Disability Tax Credit.

The same changes affect the At Home Program, School-Aged Extended Therapies and CYSN Family Support Services, not only Autism Funding.

What this means for your family depends on your child's needs and your income, so the ministry will contact families who currently receive supports. Your current supports stay in place until your family has moved to the new system.

This information comes from the Government of BC's published pages and its guide for current service recipients, as of October 2026. Details are still being finalised, so confirm anything you plan around with the ministry.

KidStart is asking BC parents what they need before these changes land. If you have five minutes, our anonymous survey asks seven questions and never asks for your child's name or details. Your answers decide which of five options KidStart builds first for 2027: small group sessions, parent coaching, shorter therapy blocks, payment plans or help with the Disability Tax Credit.
